Can Greenback e-file for me?

For the vast majority of our customers, Greenback can e-file your tax return with the IRS on your behalf.

However, there are certain situations where we may not be able to e-file your U.S. tax return. These include:

  1. Filing a tax return for a tax year older than two years: The IRS e-file system only accepts e-filed returns for the current tax year and the two previous tax years. If you need to file a return for a tax year older than that, you'll need to mail in a paper return.
  2. Filing certain forms or schedules: Some less common tax forms and schedules are not eligible for e-filing. If your return includes these forms, you'll need to file a paper return.
  3. Amending a return that was originally filed on paper: If you need to amend a tax return that you originally filed on paper, you'll need to file the amended return on paper as well.
  4. Filing after the e-file deadline: The IRS typically stops accepting e-filed returns for a given tax year in late November of the following year. If you're filing after this deadline, you'll need to file a paper return.
  5. Filing a return with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) application: If you're applying for an ITIN for the first time, you'll need to mail in your tax return along with your ITIN application.

Please note – electronically filed tax returns are accepted until November. The specific cutoff date in November is announced in October in the QuickAlerts Library. E-filing will typically re-open in January of the next year.
