Is e-filing available for late expat tax return filers?

Yes, e-filing is available for late expatriate tax return filers. The IRS allows taxpayers to e-file tax returns for the current tax year and the two previous tax years. If you need to file a tax return for a year earlier than that, you will need to mail in a paper return.

If filing under the Streamlined Procedures, you will need to mail paper copies of the returns to the IRS. You can learn more about the steps you should take to prepare for Streamlined Filing by reading the article below:

Please note – electronically filed tax returns are accepted until November. The specific cutoff date in November is announced in October in the QuickAlerts Library. E-filing will typically re-open in January of the following year.
